This is a workshop for new mothers to come together for a few hours without their babies for a gentle but effective postnatal yoga practice, meditation and rest, and tea and cake afterwards.
- start to regain strength with postnatal breathing and yoga
- learn useful strategies for relaxation and adjusting to motherhood
- relax and rest
- share your experiences with other mums
Who is the course suitable for?
The workshop is based on Birthlight Yoga practices which are gentle but effective and appropriate from immediately after birth. You can come to this workshop whenever you want once your baby is born, though I recommend you wait until around 6 weeks has passed.
Why should new mothers come?
Prenatal support is often fantastic for women, but drops off after the first weeks when your baby is born. It's a crazy time - often the most wondrous, challenging, joyful, boring, fun and exhausting experience all at once. It’s a huge, intense transition with little let-up, where we often feel uncertain of ourselves or wonder if we’re doing it “right”.
This is a workshop for a few hours away from your baby to helps you physically and mentally adjust to this new identity, giving you the tools you need to look after yourself, and your fellow mums, as well as your baby.
What if I need to feed my baby?
Of course you can take any breaks necessary to feed your baby! In this case often the best arrangement is for your baby and their carer to be nearby (e.g. a cafe or park) and let you know when your baby needs feeding. This way you get the maximum time to move, rest and reflect.
